General Information

What Is Prostatitis

Prostatitis is inflammation of the prostate gland. It is one of the most common urological conditions: one in three men over 30 will experience it. The disease significantly reduces quality of life and, if left untreated, can lead to serious complications.

The prostate gland is a small walnut-sized organ located below the bladder. When inflamed, the prostate enlarges, causing urinary difficulties and pain.

Acute Prostatitis

Develops suddenly, with high fever, severe pain, and acute urinary problems. Requires urgent treatment — typically antibiotic therapy.

Chronic Prostatitis

A long-term condition with periods of exacerbation and remission. Symptoms are less pronounced, but persistent discomfort and urinary problems significantly affect quality of life.

Bacterial Prostatitis

Caused by a bacterial infection — most commonly E. coli or STI pathogens. Responds well to antibiotic treatment when the patient seeks care promptly.

Non-bacterial Prostatitis

The most common form. Causes include congestion, poor circulation, and stress. No infection is detected, yet inflammation and symptoms are present.

Etiology

Causes of Prostatitis

  • Bacterial and viral urogenital infections
  • Pelvic blood congestion due to sedentary lifestyle
  • Hypothermia — one of the most frequent causes
  • Irregular or absent sexual activity
  • Chronic stress and immune deficiency
  • Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
  • Perineal trauma
  • Hormonal imbalances

FAQ

Questions About Prostatitis

Can chronic prostatitis be fully cured? +
Chronic prostatitis responds well to treatment when addressed promptly. Modern methods — antibiotics, physiotherapy, hardware treatment — can achieve stable remission and restore quality of life.
How long does prostatitis treatment take? +
Acute prostatitis treatment takes 2–4 weeks. Chronic prostatitis requires longer treatment — from 1 to 3 months depending on the form and stage. The doctor determines the exact duration after examination.
Does prostatitis affect potency? +
Yes, advanced prostatitis can reduce potency due to inflammation and impaired circulation. After treatment, sexual function is restored in the majority of patients.
Is a diet necessary for prostatitis? +
Yes — alcohol, spicy and fatty foods should be avoided. Zinc-rich foods are beneficial: pumpkin seeds, seafood. Adequate fluid intake is also important — at least 1.5–2 litres of water per day.
Is the consultation confidential? +
Absolutely. Patient data is never shared with third parties. You can speak openly — sensitive topics are routine practice for us.
